    The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit business association. As an active chamber, we look to advance our members’ growth and prosperity, and provide increased opportunities and value for membership. The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce also contributes extensively to our community through tourism initiatives and through our Service Ontario private issuing office. The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce recognizes the Government of Canada’s financial assistance to this CSJ (Canada Summer Jobs) initiative.

    What are you doing this summer? The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce is offering the opportunity to work in beautiful Saugeen Shores while gaining valuable experience in tourism and business administration.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO
    Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be our protégé for all things business and tourism! In this role, you will be actively promoting the area to tourists and residents by providing information on all the fun and excitement our region brings. When not engaged in tourism support, you’ll be working on projects that will stretch your skills in business, human resources, office management and more.

    WHAT WE NEED
    We are looking for a technology confident team player to deliver outstanding customer service to tourists, residents, and Chamber members. We need someone with excellent communication, time and project management skills and be computer savvy especially with social media and Google Suite.

    WHAT YOU'LL BRING
    You'll be pursuing an education or be interested in Business, Office Administration, Communications, Marketing, Volunteer Coordination, Human Resources, Tourism and Hospitality, Event Management or similar field. You like working with the public and seeking out answers to their questions. You act with professionalism and grace as you interact with customers and Chamber members. Ideally, we’ll need you to be familiar with Saugeen Shores and surrounding areas including tourism ‘hot spots’ and the business community. And of course, you'll bring a commitment to the mission and vision of the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce.

    THE ROLE
    • Resolve tourism and various inquiries via telephone, email, in-person, and social media.
    • Maintain and refill brochures and magazines in kiosks throughout Port Elgin.
    • Update databases, monitor email, communicate through Google Chat, upload documents into Google Docs and Google Sheets.
    • Attend meetings via Skype, Zoom, or similar online web telecommunications.
    • Assist with communications, marketing and social media campaigns. Create material using Canva, Photoshop or similar applications.
    • Assist with office management, Human Resource, and administration.
    • Attend off-site promotion events as required.
    • Support other department projects and team members as needed and attend Chamber-branded functions and events.

    CSJ GRANT REQUIREMENTS
    To be considered for a CSJ grant position you must meet ALL of the following CSJ grant eligibility criteria: must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; have been registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year; be a student in a secondary, postsecondary, vocational or technical program; be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.

    This is a full -time temporary position of 35 hours per week, starting June 29 and ending September 4, 2020. Our office will be open 7 days per week, 9am to 5pm, and your work schedule will include weekend hours. Early mornings/evenings may be required when necessary. Financial compensation is $14.10 per hour.

    Due to COVID-19 all efforts will be made to keep our employees, visitors, and Chamber members safe while we continue to deliver services. Some duties will be completed remotely, while practicing physical distancing, and while using a face mask / shield. You will also need to follow our Heath & Safety policies and procedures.
