2019 COMMITTEES OF THE SAUGEEN SHORES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Are you one of many talented people willing to share your expertise or interest and participate on a committee? Volunteering on a Chamber committee gives you -- or your employee -- a unique opportunity to network and promote your business. For as little as 3 hours each month, it's a great way to benefit your business, make contacts, and grow professionally. Be part of our Chamber community and get involved!
The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit business association governed by a volunteer board of directors. Members sit on various committees that explore and address issues of importance to the local business community. Chamber leadership guide the direction of committees and, where necessary, get approval from the full Board for actions. All committees report to the Board through reports presented at monthly board meetings. Chamber members in good standing are encouraged to join a committee of interest to them.
Mandated in our bylaws 7.1 and consisting of the Executive Board members, this committee convenes in emergencies and between regular meetings of the Board of Directors. The Management Committee shall act on behalf of the Board of Directors. The management committee carries responsibility for leading strategic planning and evaluating CEO performance.

Business Recognition Awards of Saugeen Shores. This is one of the flagship events held bi-annually in late May or early June to recognize businesses and members in Saugeen Shores. Nominations begin in January of each year for 5-6 chosen categories, followed by judging, and a gala event showcasing the winners. A silent and live auction is also held as a Chamber fundraiser. The committee runs from November until organizing and executing this event. Next BRASS is scheduled for June 2020.
Chamber-branded events provide a forum for business owners and operators to exchange leads and information, as well as share resources. Therefore, this committee's mandate is to initiate and promote events and networking opportunities for the benefit of all Chamber members. Sub-committees may be formed by this committee. Members experienced or interested in event planning, communications and marketing, and possessing excellent organizational skills and creativity would be best suited for this committee. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Business After Houds, Annual General Meeting, Christmas Social, Member Appreciation events, Grand opening/anniversary celebrations of member businesses, and special events such as golf, curling, trade show, etc. should they be deemed appropriate.

The Risk & Audit Committee is responsible to assist the Board in fulfilling its obligations and oversight responsibilities relating to financial planning, the audit process, financial reporting, the system of corporate controls and risk management. Individuals with a background in human resources, law, accounting and professional experience in nonprofit auditing and consulting would be best suited for this committee. This is a professional committee composed of between three and five members, none of whom have any direct or indirect association with each other or other directors which could, in the view of the Board, reasonably interfere with the exercise of the member's independent judgment. The Chamber's Executive Director recruits for this committee and presents quarterly reports to the board of directors.
