Get to see our PixieDrone plastic capture technology in action and participate in a community cleanup event at Station Beach! During this event, you will have the opportunity to take part in a demonstration of the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup's PixieDrone. The Great Lakes Plastics Cleanup is an initiative led by Pollution Probe in Canada and the Council of the Great Lakes Region in the U.S., that uses innovative plastic capture technology to prevent and remove plastic pollution from the Great Lakes and collect data on what is found in collaboration with local communities. The PixieDrone is a remote-controlled waste collector that targets all forms of floating debris in the water, including organic, plastic, glass, metal, paper, and rubber. Participants will see a live demonstration of the PixieDrone in operation as it collects debris from the water, providing an interactive opportunity to learn about innovative technologies used to help protect freshwater ecosystems. The demonstration will also be paired with a cleanup activity at Station Beach. You will be invited to help sort and characterize the debris collected, providing an important opportunity to help collect critical data to inform upstream solutions aimed at ending plastic pollution in the Great Lakes.
