During the national celebration of arts and culture known as Culture Days, the Museum will host a special event dedicated to the current exhibit, Legacy of Hope: A National Crime: The Residential School System, Local Saugeen Ojibway Nation Impacts. Participants will have a chance to engage and interact with the exhibit with a local Saugeen Ojibway Nation community member to learn deeper insights into the broader history of the Residential School System in Canada and the legacy of their local impact. Over 300 children from Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation were forcibly removed from their homes and communities to attend these schools. Children were sent great distances away across Canada (Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan) and into the USA (Michigan). WARNING: This exhibition contains subject matter that may be disturbing to some visitors and may be triggering. Please call 1-866-925-4419 or your local crisis line for counselling and support. This event is FREE to attend. Preregistration is encouraged. General admission to the Museum will also be free throughout the day on October 4th as part of Culture Days.
