    • About

The Marine Heritage Society is a not-for-profit group of volunteers dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of our community’s marine history. The objective of the Society is to identify, preserve and restore material items of marine historical significance and to raise sufficient funds to support these endeavors. We offer tours all summer to Chantry Island and have taken over 25000 people to see and enjoy our restoration work.

Other marine related projects that we have taken on are the recent restoration and upkeep of the Saugeen Harbour Front Range Light in Southampton as well as the rear Range Light and the McNab Point Range (which was restored in 2009).

We host the Marine Heritage Festival at the mouth of the Saugeen river by Pioneer Park every mid-summer. This is a three day “Free, Fun, Family Festival” where we have cardboard boat races, a Children’s Gold Hunt, local musical entertainment throughout the weekend, and many other fun family events.

We also have a Marine Heritage Artisans Market every Friday throughout the summer. There are lots of homemade/handmade/homegrown items available at this Artisans Market.
